Siberian Cat Brief Description

Siberian cat is the National cat of Russia. A longer name of the formal breed is Siberian Forest Cat but it is usually referred to as the Siberian or the Siberian cat. They also can be referred as Moscow Semi-Long-hair.

They are big cats but they can jump with the best of them. The Siberian is one of the largest domesticated cats. It’s not unusual for them to exceed twenty pounds. Because of their size they can take as much as five years for Siberian to reach full maturity. Anything we find most distinctive about Siberians is their eyes. There are very large and soulful. They have a slight upturned angle to them that is unique to the breed. When you look at a Siberian from the side they have a slight arched back and that’s because their hind legs are a bit longer than the front legs. That slight arch is part of what makes them such incredibly agile cats who are very, very athletic. The Siberian coat can come in any color combination but they’ll always have three dense layers. These three layers protect the cat from the Russian extreme weather. The Siberian cat breed does not have any unusual, distinct, or unique fur colorations or patterns.

What’s unique about this Siberian cat is that they produce less Fel d1 protein than most cats. So if you do you suffer from allergies you might be able to live with a Siberian cat because they make less of this protein which is responsible for allergy to cats.

Siberians are happy part of any family, especially those with allergies. And because of their long history of natural selection it’s a healthy breed. But get ready your vacuum cleaner because the Siberian sheds a lot, especially between seasons to prepare a thick winter coat or to thin down for summer. Every Siberian is unique but in general they are hearty and healthy breed. As they shed a lot and due their dense layer coat the cat requires frequent brushing. This gentle giant is great for households with children.

And who wouldn’t love a cat that just looks like a big chunk of fur, you just wanna grab them and give them a little hug.
